Ashley Peter is the co-founder and director of 2go. 2go is a Cape Town-based mobile networking application that allows one to communicate for free with your friends. It is a network of millions of people where you can set up your profile, talk to friends, share files and pictures, and meet new people.[1]

2go allows one to communicate with your friends for free. It requires a network connection which mobile operators charge a small cost for which is less than an SMS.[2]

Peter met co-founder, Alan Wolff, in 2006 while studying computer sciences at the University of Witwatersrand.[3]

2go was co-founded in 2007 by Wolff and Peter in Johannesburg, South Africa.[4] They began working on their start-up full-time in 2009.

After working on a few small projects together, Wolff and Peter discovered their great working chemistry.[5] Both were determined to use their software development knowledge to make something that people would use. They began working on a simple mobi site application that allowed students in their class to keep up to date with their study and exam timetable. Soon they realised that the application could function as a general purpose-chat application. Using Java, they decided to start a company to develop and promote a messaging network application on feature phones.[6]

2go began at the spare desk of Peter’s father’s home office.[7] Soon it grew to over 10 million active users with only a seven-person business.[8]

In 2008, Peter obtained a BSc in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of the Witwatersrand.[9]
