Jay Alabraba is an entrepreneur and investor. Alabraba has experience working in financial services, especially in business planning and development[1], entrepreneurship, venture capital, management and corporate development. He has an MBA in Finance and Organised Behaviour from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and obtained this qualification in 2007.
He is based in Lagos, Nigeria and has experience in the High-Tech and Pharma sectors.[2]
Alabraba is the Co-Founder and Director of Business Development of Pagatech Limited (Paga) and started occupying this position in January 2010.[3] Paga was launched in Lagos, Kano and Onitsha, Nigeria, in April 2009.[4]
Paga is a fintech company and serves as a mobile payment service operator[5] that Alabraba co-founded with Tayo Oviosu in 2010. Paga is a financial services company that[6] allows customers to send mobile money and businesses to process payments.[7] Oviosu is the Co-Founder and CEO of Paga.[8]
History
Alabraba was born and raised in Nigeria and he immigrated to the United States when he was 16 years old.[9]
He attended the Obafemi Awolowo University[10] in Ife, Nigeria,[11] and studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering from 1992 to 1994. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University - Metropolitan Campus in New Jersey[12] and studied Electrical Engineering in 1995.
From 1996 to 1999, Alabraba attended The Ohio State University and completed his BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering achieving a cum laude[13]
He was the Programme Manager at Microsoft Corp from September 1999 to August 2004 in Redmond, USA, and a Bonini Fellow at Eli Lilly & Co from August 2004 to August 2005 in Indianapolis, USA.
He was then an Associate in Investment Banking for Goldman, Sachs & Co from June 2006 to December 2008 in New York, USA. From January 2009 to January 2010, Alabraba was the Team Lead in Corporate Finance in Investment Banking for BGL Limited in Lagos, Nigeria.
He Founded Quest Change Limited in December 2004.
Alabraba is an Endeavor entrepreneur for Endeavor and started this position in December 2018.
In August 2020, he became the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Mobile Payment Operators in Nigeria.[14] This was an online event that occurred on 6 August, 2020.[15]
Awards and Achievements
From 2 to 3 February 2016, Alabraba was one of 30 people who spoke at the 6th Remittance & MobileMoneyExpo in Lagos, Nigeria.[16]
Alabraba was selected by Endeavor to form part of the organisation at Endeavor’s 84th International Selection Panel that was held in Stellenbosch from Tuesday 11 December to 13 December 2018. Endeavor is a non-profit organisation that supports high-impact entrepreneurs around the world.[17]
