Academic libraries typically serve two complementary purposes - to support the school's curriculum, and to support the research of the university faculty and students.

It is currently unknown how many academic libraries exist in Africa and internationally, but Disrupting Africa has a goal of ensuring the right content on African innovation is in as many readily available academic libraries globally.
